Moving In, OR Back In, OR Something -- WE ARE CONFUSED

DE JA VU ALL OVER AGAIN

We don’t know if it is fate – or good luck – or bad luck – or no luck at all – BUT, we may be back where we started.

For 6 months Mendy has been planning our July trip to her hometown of Lake Charles, Louisiana, for various family reunions & visiting.  We were planning on returning to South Carolina after that. Several uncanny (or as Kelley says "Spooky") things have happened since then.

1st I asked Mendy how long we were gonna be in Louisiana? She didn’t know but thought at least all of July and maybe into August.

So I began thinking

1. July 1st was my one-year-of-retirement anniversary and Mendy promised me one year off when I retired. So, last month I applied for a job in Alaska;

2. We may stay in Louisiana into August;

3. August is the month before September;

4. September is the month hunting season starts;

5. Our uncle has a 1,000-acre hunting ranch in Lake Charles with full RV hookups;

6. On the outside chance that I get the job in Alaska (like, no one up there knows me), it is just as easy to get to Alaska from our uncle’s 1,000-acre hunting ranch in Lake Charles as it is from Beautiful Lake Greenwood, SC;

7. Since we live in an RV, why would we wanna pay lot rent and utilities in SC if we may gonna be going to Alaska (if no one up there knows me) from our uncle’s 1,000-acre hunting ranch in Lake Charles; so

8. Why not just move to Louisiana?

9. Then Mendy decided that if the Alaska job doesn’t work out (like if there is someone up there that knows me) I can pass out my Maritime resumes in the Port of Lake Charles. (Kinda made sense at the time as there isn’t that much maritime work on Beautiful Lake Greenwood, SC, and there can’t be someone in every Admiralty law firm in Lake Charles that knows me!)

In the mean time, the job I had as a Lieutenant from 1992 till 1996 in Morgan City, LA was turned into a civilian job and they were advertising it on the net. Morgan City is internationally INfamous as the place that Mendy & I met. Although we would enjoy Alaska -- we would adore Morgan City.

So I am applying for the job in Morgan City. I have a good shot at it too if there is no one there that remembers how I did the job the last time I had it.

Continuing on with this tale: On the way to Lake Charles the 454 Chevy RV engine blew up in Georgia. They wanted $7500 to $9000 to fix it. They wanted $2 per mile to tow it (kinda a bargain as it costs us $5 per mile to operate it considering maintenance. In fact, that is how we are gonna travel from now on – call a tow truck to drag us where we wanna go & back). We decided to go for the tow job.

Towed to where you say? We didn’t know. We had plenty of places in Lake Charles to dump it. However, it was $300 more to Lake Charles than Morgan City. And what if I get the job in Morgan City (like, if there is no one there who remembers how I did the job last time). It would cost us another $300 to move it back from Lake Charles.

Our former landlord & brother-in-law, Lester, noted that the place I cleared and graveled (but Lester bought the gravel) and built a lean-to on for my old 16 foot RV out in the woods next to the bass pond and boat landing on Wax Lake near Morgan City in 1992 was available (see Wax Lake on our HOME PAGE). The guy that had the place I cleared and graveled (but Lester bought the gravel) and built a lean-to on for my old 16 foot RV out in the woods next to the bass pond and boat landing on Wax Lake near Morgan City in 1992 just retired and vacated it.

Anyway, today is Sunday. We just came from a family reunion in Lake Charles and are spending the night sleeping on the floor in Sue’s (may she rest in peace) old bait & beer shop next that the place I cleared and graveled (but Lester bought the gravel) and built a lean-to on for my old 16 foot RV out in the woods next to the bass pond and boat landing on Wax Lake near Morgan City in 1992. Tomorrow we are gonna check the unit roster at the Marine Safety Office in Morgan City. If I recognize any names on list, I will know that I don’t have a chance for the job and we will have the RV towed to our uncle’s 1,000-acre hunting ranch in Lake Charles with full RV hookups.

If I don’t recognize any names on the roster, I will assume that there is no one at the Marine Safety Office in Morgan City that remembers how I did the job the last time I had it and therefore will assume I have a shot at the job. We will then have the RV towed to the place I cleared and graveled (but Lester bought the gravel) and built a lean-to on for my old 16 foot RV out in the woods next to the bass pond and boat landing on Wax Lake near Morgan City in 1992. Who’da thunk that fate may put us back where we started through no fault of our own?

Mendy has suggested I change my name to Wilsawn and that may help me find work.

L&S,

j
